At the beginning of the pandemic, we were all feeling a little uneasy. Rightfully so! There are many other life events that can trigger that same feeling. I wanted to share some tried and true ways to stay calm in the midst of the unknown.
- Set parameters around how much media is healthy for you to consume each day. Also, take note when you're consuming and how it affects your life. Can't sleep? Might want to pick up that book and read instead of watching the news right before bed.
- Think about "Worst Case Scenario" and make a plan. Sounds negative, right? It’s actually stealing the fear from the unknown that creates all sorts of anxiety and causes us to worry. For example: Worst Case Scenario is testing positive for Covid-19. Put together a simple plan for what do I do if I have symptoms and what do I do if I get a positive diagnosis can put our minds at ease.
- Remember what you can control and boost your immune system accordingly. Of course, WASH YOUR HANDS! But also, exercise, choose healthy foods, get solid sleep and stay close to God. If "Worst Case Scenario" happens, your body will be at its best (and better able to fight it off if the situation is in regards to your health).
- Find the silver lining. For example, how many times have we all said, "I don't have time!" Well, the pandemic gave us lots of time! When times get hard, find something positive to focus your energy on. Maybe it's beginning an exercise plan, starting a daily gratitude practice, or even just going for a family bike ride or walk.
