Over the years, the number of females in the workplace has continued to climb. We are after education, advancement, and our seat at the table – now more than ever!
At First United, we are blessed to have so many wonderful women across our organization. From new moms to seasoned moms and grandmas, singles, marrieds, and ranging from interns to senior management, we have a variety of women at very different stages in their lives. I feel like this great diversity opens the door for opportunities of shared learning and mentorship at many different levels.
I recently invited several of our female leaders to share with me their advice or motivation for climbing the corporate ladder and wanted to share a piece of that today. My hope is to inspire and empower women inside our organization and other female Stakeholders (which include our customers, our partners/suppliers, our shareholders, our employees, and those in our communities).
One of the questions I asked this group was "List a favorite book that impacted you and your path to leadership." Here's what they shared:
- Bible
- The High-Potential Leader by Ram Charan
- Let It Go by Karen Ehman
- Your Brain at Work by David Rock
- The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown (available in select First United lobbies)
- The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu
- The Power of Ted by David Emerald (available in select First United lobbies)
- Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
- Crucial Conversations by Kerry Patterson and Joseph Grenny
- Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
- On the Right Track by Marion Jones
- The Go Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann
If you are a woman in the workplace, we highly recommend any and all of the books listed above. They are all great resources to empower us in the areas of Faith and Personal Growth, both personally and professionally.
“Reading is a way for me to expand my mind, open my eyes, and fill up my heart.”
