Awardee at Gala

Congratulations goes to our very own First United Bank – Sherman Taylor Street Building for earning the prestigious Sustainability Leadership Design Award from CoreNet Global - North Texas at their Black, White & Blue Gala on April 7, 2022! After five years of partnering together, First United Bank and global architecture firm, Gensler, set out to design the bank’s regional headquarters office building meant to serve the community and attract and retain top talent in the area. The design creates an environment representative of the community while placing a heavy emphasis on sustainable materials and practices using mass timber construction. In addition to its mass timber design approach, First United Bank Sherman meets net-zero energy requirements by having the ability to operate the entire building’s power requirements off solar panels located on the roof. A collection system harvests all rainwater from the roof, and the condensation from the HVAC system, for serving the sites irrigation. This paired with the use of native plant selections keep the irrigation requirements from city water to a minimum. A grand moss wall was installed along the main stair to enhance employee health and wellness by helping to filter air within the space. In partnership with the mass timber elements, this “green lung” plant installation is reflective of the team’s biophilic design approach to bring the outdoors in.
