There is a popular quote from Dr. Seuss’s story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, that says, “It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags! Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. ‘Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.’”
During this time of year, it's easy for us to get caught up in making last minute trips to the retail stores, stressing over finding the perfect gifts, and making sure we have the prettiest wrapping paper, that we forget the real reason for the season and why we are celebrating in the first place.
I, personally, enjoy Christmas so much because of the happiness it brings each year. Light-hearted music and movies on TV, beautiful decorations everywhere we go, and getting to spend quality time with our family and friends is a great way to end any year. The best part is that none of it needs a ribbon, a tag, a box, or a bag, but all of those things still bring us joy. And that, to me, is what Christmas is all about.
Through the hustle and bustle of the holidays, remember that Christmas means much more than anything we can buy at a store. We should use this time to focus on the many blessings in our lives, the people that we love and care about the most, and celebrating the birth of Jesus.
